ADV LAUREEN C BORIEN (ABRAHAMS)
Laureen Borien holds the degrees B. IURIS & LLB from the University of the Western Cape. She has successfully completed the following Modules towards LLM degree: Sentencing and Punishment (UCT); Law in Operation and the South African Family (UCT); Constitutional Rights and Criminal Justice (UWC); and Humanitarian Law (UWC) She also holds a certificate of attendance in the Postgraduate Course in Competition Law from Mandela Institute (Wits).
She started her legal career in 1989 at the Legal Aid Board of South Africa as an Assistant Legal Aid Officer. She was also employed by the Provincial Government Western Cape as a Legal Administration Officer and at Juta & Co Ltd as an Editor.
She is fully proficient in Afrikaans and English.
Obtained LLB degree with UNISA in 2012. Seconded to Offices of the State Attorney, Johannesburg to serve Attorney’s Articles of Clerkship from 2012 August until 2014 October. I was admitted as a non-practising attorney in August 2014 until I removed my name from the attorney’s roll in 2017 in order to change to the profession of an Advocate.
I was appointed as Employee Relations Specialist at SAA Technical from October 2014 until December 2017 when I resigned to do pupillage with Pretoria Bar in the year 2018.
She was called to the Bar on 1 July 2002 after completing her pupillage at the Cape Bar. She remained a member of the Cape Bar until 30 June 2013. On 1 July 2013, she joined the Johannesburg Society of Advocates. Since 1 June 2021, she is a member of the Mpumalanga Bar and she enjoys 19 years standing at the Bar.
Her practice consists of general litigation with a special interest in Personal Injury Law, Administrative Law, Labour Law and Criminal Law.

She is currently an advocacy trainer at the JHB Bar and a Mentor in the Mentorship programme of the South African Chapter: International Association of Women Judges.
