Morne van der Linde started his legal career with the Centre for Human Rights at the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria in 2001. At the centre his areas of focus included Good Governance as well as Environmental Law. He frequently engaged with international organisations such as the African Union, the United Nations and the United Nations Environment Programme. During this period he published extensively in the fields of Human Rights and Environmental Law.

Morne joined the Pretoria Bar in 2006 where after he practised in the fields of applied Administrative Law and Natural Resources Law (Environmental Law, Forestry, Mining Law, Petroleum Resources, and Water Law). During 2011, he joined the EU FLEGT Facility which is a specialist agency affiliated with the European Commission. During his period with the EU FLEGT Facility he supported the Negotiation and Implementation of bi-lateral Environmental and Trade Agreements between the European Union and developing countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas.

Morne returned to the Pretoria Bar in February 2015 and joined the Mpumalanga Society of Advocates in 2016
